Siberian chalk on paper, 70 x 100 cm
Part of the “In the beginning” series

This is one of my new pictures. It exists of several photos I took. And the title says it all.
In Greek Mythology, Selene is the goddess of the moon. She is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia.
And she is the sister of Eos, goddess of the dawn.

In my research (Omphalos project) I start making realistic sketches of women and then try to change them, make them more “Gaia”.
And I also use different materials (charcoal, siberian coal, acrylic paint, black ink) and different sizes of paper. Sometimes the drawings are just 10 x 15 cm. And sometimes 50 x 70 cm.
This one is a sketch made with oil paint. 40 x 50 cm: MEDUSA
I am working on a new series of oilpaintings.

Well, let’s say, this one is also rather strange.
Finished Gaia-Pythia
Strange painting. Don’t know what to think of it, yet. But it surprises me. And that’s what I always tell my students: “Surprise Yourself!” So that’s probably a good thing.
